The subsidiary of Tempus TriStar Air will perform the refueling services for Department of the Navy
18 April, 2019
A fleet of former Royal Air Force (RAF) L-1011 tankers will provide air refueling services for the U.S. Navy and foreign military customers under a contract announced on April 18 worth up to $121 million.
The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division at Patuxent River, Maryland, awarded the contract to TriStar Air, LLC, with a five-year term, according to the award notice by the Defense Department.
The contract was awarded after a competitive selection process, the department added.
South Carolina-based TriStar Air was formed by Newport News, Virginia-based Tempus Applied Solutions to manage and operate a fleet of six L-1011s acquired last year from the RAF. Four of the six aircraft are equipped with drogue refueling systems.
The notice said TriStar will perform most of the refueling services from two bases in the U.S.: Riverside, California, and Brunswick, Georgia. About one-tenth of the work is expected to be performed overseas, the notice said.
